TNMC Global Alumni Association (May 2021)

The pandemic had no bias. All were affected, the poor and the well-to-do. Medical aid was critical and under pressure. The SAHASIs wondered how to be of some help in this time of chaos, crises and heartbreak. Dr Padmini Desai was consulted and she directed us to Dr Ajit Desai. He told us that TNMC Global Alumni Association was in the process of taking care of the Covid complication Mucormycosis which is a devastating complication and many a times leaves the patient handicapped. The drugs for the treatment are very expensive and they are difficult to procure. Medicines like liposomal amphotericin costs around Rs 6 to Rs 7 thousand per vial while poscaconazole syrup costs Rs 21thousand per 200 ml bottle. As by the time we had collected a decent amount, the SAHASIs were of the opinion that we could collaborate with TNMC in reaching out to the public with COVID medication and COVID kit for doctors, health workers and paramedics. We reached out with our contribution to help procure the medicines requisitioned by the Alumni Association. Some of our contribution also went towards purchase of COVID kit for the medicos.
