Commuting to school poses huge challenge for the children of villages and hilly regions of the country. Wanting to make things a little easier for the students SAHAS (Spreading Aid, Health And Smile) FOUNDATION thought of making bicycles available to them. Running on a shoe-string budget, SAHAS, unable to procure new cycles, came up with the idea of collecting ‘not-in-use’ bicycles from housing societies in Mumbai, repairing them, sprucing them up so as to make them as good as new and making the children happy. Surely, such refurbished bicycles would change lives of thousands of promising, intelligent, underprivileged students in the rural and urban areas.
To start with, SAHAS transported about 19 cycles from Mumbai by tempo / truck in April 2024, to be distributed to the school children.
