Tuberculosis (TB) is a global health threat that can pose a significant risk to a country. This was brought home to us while discussing healthcare with some doctors. Poor nutrition of the marginalised make them prone to the killing disease. Though medical treatment for the patient is available free of cost, nutrition is of utmost importance, not only of the one affected but all the family members. This year the Government is propagating the cause of TB-Mukt Bharat by holding awareness programmes. More than 40 thousand are affected in Mumbai.
Becoming a Niksay Mitra and providing food under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana launched by the Government is one way of providing support.
The Ni-kshay Mitra Food Basket Scheme ensures that the patients get nutritional diet as recommended by WHO. Per patient the Government share is Rs 1000/-. The Balance requirement is supplemented by individuals, NGOs, and corporate entities.
SAHAS is a self-financed organisation. We at SAHAS [Spreading Aid Health and Smiles] Foundation, thought it a good enough cause. Last year we had adopted 10 TB patients under the Nikshay Poshan Scheme and this year with the help of friends and welwishers, have adopted about 22 patients. With your help we can reach out to more.
