In rural areas of India more than 60% of children drop out of school after 5th grade. High schools are not available in rural areas and students need to travel long distances to pursue higher education. Long walks, unavailability of public transportation and safety are huge concerns for the girl students and the main reason for dropping out of schools in India.
Family financial constraint and non-affordability of bicycles [which could be a safe mode of transport] are the main reasons why 32.5% of girls dropout at secondary levels.
To address the commuting challenges faced by the underprivileged, SAHAS aims to give opportunity to students by providing bicycles and fulfilling their dream of going to school. The journey to school will become safer, faster than before and life would be little easier for them.
An Appeal
Many societies have discarded bicycles which they sell as scrap. Such cycles, refurbished could be donated to these needy children in remote villages of Maharashtra.
SAHAS would be thankful to the donors and could also arrange for the transportation to such bicycles to the needy children.

The cost of a bicycle is anywhere between 4-5K. Even second-hand bicycles cost around 2K. Added to that is the transportation cost. Even a small amount of Rs 500/- from you would advance us towards our goal of making owning a cycles a reality for the children in the villages of Maharashtra.
